Mashatu is home to no less than seven of Africa’s “giants” – the African elephant, the lion, giraffe, the baobab tree, the eland, ostrich and the kori bustard. It is therefore fitting that these giants have a massive habitat – 42 000 hectares of pristine game land set aside as a refuge for these creatures.

Mashatu is home to some of the largest species in their respective genus:

  • The African Elephant – Loxodonta africana

  • The Giraffe – Giraffa camelopardalis
  • The Baobab Tree – Adansonia digitata
  • The Eland – Taurotragus oryx
  • The Ostrich – Struthio camelus
  • Kori Bustard – Ardeotis kori
