Perched atop a kopjie, this unique home is a harmonious convergence of the Shashe and Limpopo Rivers, weaving together Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. From its vantage point, Shalimpo commands breathtaking views that extend across the landscape.
The self-catering home welcomes up to 8 guests. Four bedrooms offer comfort, with two en-suite and two sharing a bathroom. An open-plan indoor dining room and lounge lead to a covered patio, inviting leisurely moments of reading, laughter, and board games.
An open-air braai and boma area make for casual dining or stargazing in the evenings. The large farm-style kitchen can be used for self-catering and all supplies of food and drink can be pre-ordered and delivered just ahead of your arrival.
A small plunge pool is perfectly situated in the garden. One game viewing vehicle and guide are provided to safely take you around the Reserve on morning and afternoon game drives; with enchanting bird life and once in a lifetime wildlife sightings.
Shalimpo’s charm lies in its remote authenticity, free from electricity, powered solely by solar energy and lanterns. Our attentive on-site team ensure the home is kept clean during your stay.

Upon arrival, you will be driven up to your exclusive-use safari home and welcomed by your dedicated team, with views of the surrounding landscape from a top the koptie. Mashatu Connect is the air and road transport entity, established to coordinate the needs of guests visiting Mashatu Game Reserve, with flights travelling from Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa and Limpopo Valley Airfield (LVA), private airport situated within Mashatu Game Reserve.
All flights operate with fully licensed aircrafts and pilots. A range of aircrafts are utilized, specific to the number of passengers per transfer, as well as route taken. Crew, aircraft, and charter operator details, as well as ETD’s and ETA’s will be provided on confirmation of your booking.
With morning departure times from Lanseria Airport and afternoon arrival times at Limpopo Valley Airport, you’ll be met by our friendly guide who will drive you through the Reserve directly to your accommodation. This is where your first game drive truly begins!
Travelling to Mashatu via road is a fun adventure, approx. 6.5 hours from Johannesburg and 2 hours from Polokwane Airport. After arriving at the Pont Drift Border Post, you will make your way over the mighty Limpopo River. If the River isn’t in flood, you will cross over via vehicle. If the River is in flood, you will make your way over the waters via the cable car.
You will be required to fill in forms at the office and hand them in with your passport to get stamped. Once your passport has been stamped, your bags may be checked by an official. If you have anything to declare, we advise you do.

Mashatu is most famous for its elephants, as it houses the largest herd of elephant on privately owned land on the continent. All water in the camp is filtered to the highest standards, and is guaranteed perfectly safe for consumption.
Master Card and Visa Cards are accepted for Pula (Botswana’s currency) transactions at Mashatu Game Reserve, while American Express is only accepted when paying with ZAR (South African Rand). Diner’s Club Cards are not accepted.VAT is payable in Botswana. 14% is levied against the price of most goods, services and hotel accommodation. Foreign tourists qualify for a VAT refund on items purchased and taken out of the country on departure. No VAT refund may be claimed on goods consumed or services rendered. Although not mandatory, tipping in Botswana is a great way to show appreciation
Dress code is safari casual. Be sure to bring a sweater which may be needed at any time of year. During the winter months (May to September) very warm clothes, including a windbreaker or anorak, are essential.
Malaria is a low risk threat in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve region, and people entering the area should consult their doctors regarding anti-malarial prophylactics.
A valid passport is obligatory if travelling from outside Botswana with a re-entry visa for South Africa for some nationalities.
Please be advised that Botswana Immigration no longer accepts temporary or emergency passports. There are no exceptions to this and you will be turned away at the border should you not be in possession of a valid passport. Please note that South Africa and Botswana requires that all children under the age of 18 traveling to/from South Africa and to/from Botswana should be in possession of an unabridged birth certificate. Where only one parent is traveling, an affidavit for the child to travel is required from the remaining parent
The climate over most of southern Africa is temperate, although hot, dry conditions are usually encountered in the Tuli region. Heavy summer thunderstorms of short duration in the late afternoon and early evening may be expected. Rain usually occurs during the summer months – between October and March. All lodges have wifi in the communal areas. Euphorbia Mashatu and Kolokolo Safari Home have wifi throughout.
