The first rains arrived this month, and what a joyous occasion it was! After a very baron and dry 7 months a sprinkling of water on the very thirsty soils of Mashatu was much welcomed. Just a few tiny millilitres was all it took for the very distraught looking Mopane Trees to sense a change in the season and begin sprouting their fresh, shiny, lime green new leaves. The elephants are slowly beginning to move back north as their food resources start replenishing them selves. Migrant birds are making their way back south, with cuckoo’s being spotted almost daily on game drives. And the best signal of all that summer is here is the little crested barbet who has spent the last few weeks outside my room knocking a hole into HIS tree in preparation for new life.
Hope you all enjoy this months ‘Top 15’ images from Mashatu Game Reserve, and a big thank you for all those keen photographers and nature enthusiasts for always sharing your images.
Happy Summer!
