Spring has arrived, and with it, it has brought new life. The open plains of Mashatu once covered in skeletal and spiny looking acacias, are now laden in blankets of yellow and the scent of sweetness. New life is not only evident in the flora of the reserve but the fauna too. According to our expert team of field guides the arrival of a new litter of lion cubs is but days away. With one of the sisters in the pride of 5 (two lioness, and three cubs) looking as if she is ready to pop.
The three cubs, now 7 months of age, are growing at the speed of light a clear sign that they are being fed very regularly by their mother. This is not hard to believe considering the size and strength of this lioness.
With the cubs still very young and dependent on their mother and aunt who provide them with their meals it will be very interesting to see how and if they take to the new additions soon to arrive into the pride.
