There’s a buzz around the camps at Mashatu Game Reserve as we finally receive our first guests after a year of closure, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which without warning, stopped travel in its tracks.
Travel has changed and the world is not yet over the pandemic, but the team here have been working hard to make travel to Mashatu Game Reserve as simple and safe as possible.
Getting here:
Our nearest border post, Pont Drift remains closed for now. To facilitate guests wanting to drive to Mashatu, whether from within Botswana or from South Africa, we have a number of options in place. Martin’s Drift Border Post is currently being used.
For those driving directly to the reserve, a 4×4 or high clearance vehicle is recommended. Shaded parking with 24hr security is available at out our Limpopo Valley Airfield (LVA), at a cost of BWP150 per day, with an optional extra car wash service available at BWP40. Guests will be collected from the airfield and within minutes you’ll have left the world behind and be on safari.
If you don’t have a suitable vehicle, we have arranged secure undercover parking with 24hr security at Mathathane Village, which is accessed by tarmac road. The cost for this is BWP150 per day with a car wash service available at BWP40. Payment for this service is in cash at the parking site and all funds go directly to Mathathane Village Development Committee. A Mashatu vehicle will collect you from here, and within an hour you’ll be enjoying the sights of the majestic sandstone ridges as you enter the reserve.
For guests coming from further afield and flying into Gaborone, transfers will be arranged directly from Gaborone to Mashatu Game Reserve.
To book parking and transfers please arrange via the reservations office.
Covid Protocols:
All guests arriving in the reserve will be met at Limpopo Valley Airfield, you will be welcomed by Lume, who will be waiting and ready to assist you with your Covid screening whilst your luggage is sanitised. Your guide will then transfer you to camp.
We have contracted the services of Diagnofirm and now have a Covid Testing Center with nurse KB, stationed at Limpopo Valley Airfield, to facilitate the PCR tests required before departure at any of the Botswana borders.
PCR tests can be done every day of the week at a cost of BWP1650 pp and results are received within 24 hrs. Rapid testing is available on request or when needed, at a cost of BWP250 pp (results within 15 minutes). All test results will be emailed to our office for printing and will then be available for guests to collect on departure.
