If you have arrived at Mashatu via Limpopo Valley Airfield, chances are you would have been greeted with a big smile and warm welcome by Thulani Matore, Director of Limpopo Valley Access (Pty) Ltd and air traffic controller. Lets get to know her.
I grew up in Harare, Zimbabwe and always had love for aviation. After completing my education, air traffic control came at an opportune time. I worked at Bulawayo and Harare Airports as an air traffic controller before joining Mashatu in 2001.
Interacting with guests from different parts of the world, whose main objective it is to observe and appreciate nature, as well as traditional cultures prevailing in the natural areas of Mashatu and the surrounding communities.
I love the challenging and sobering responsibilities of providing a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic, whether on the ground or in the air, with an ultimate goal of ensuring a safe airspace for users of air traffic in and out of Mashatu. I also enjoy maintaining the safest and most unique way of accessing Mashatu, by cable way, which is the only one in the world linking two countries, when the Limpopo river is in flood.
Mashatu is an esteemed organisation, and one of the top African safari and tourism destinations, which plays a vital role in Botswana’s economy. I am also most appreciative of Mashatu’s efforts of giving back to the communities in the Bobirwa district.
The Eland, my totem and very smart looking animal.
The Grey Parrot. They are very intelligent and considered the greatest talker..
Boiled chicken with soft pap.

Amazing to see todays cableway. We went across the original one when Mashatu was owned by a conglomerate of people, including Mr Ted Steyn (Shashi-Limpopo Conservation Syndicate), associated with Rennies Travel & Tourism. Very sweet memories.
