Mashatu Tent Camp is the leisure choice for the guest seeking the ultimate one-on-one bush experience and who prefers a more intimate environment. Listen to the symphony of the night—a chorus of hyenas, leopards, and lions—right outside your door.
Eight completely private tents are tucked under the branches of enormous trees, accessible via meandering pathways. The tents themselves are spacious, comfortable and large enough that there’s no need to duck to get around. Each is mounted on a raised platform and has its own private outdoor en-suite facilities, including W.C. and shower.
Instant camaraderie is the norm at this unique camp. Meal times are shared either in the open-air thatched gazebo, or in the boma (enclosure) overlooking the floodlit, well-populated waterhole. The camp’s plunge pool invites guests to cool off and escape the heat of the summer months.
The sturdy and shaded hide also overlooks the waterhole, where bush enthusiasts can sit quietly and witness animals going about their day, completely unaware that they are being watched. It is humbling indeed to be an observer, to be part of the perfect, natural world.
Please note that air-conditioning and heating is not available at Mashatu Tent Camp.
Upon arrival at Mashatu Tent Camp, our team will greet you with a welcome drink and lead you through to the open plan communal area where you can enjoy your drink overlooking the waterhole. Our team will assist with your luggage and show you to your private tent.
After settling in, you have time to explore the hide which overlooks the waterhole, frequented by a resident leopard, hyenas and plenty of wildlife. Alternatively, you can sit on your private patio with a cup of tea and watch the wildlife that comes and goes in incredibly close proximity.
It’s then time to indulge in high tea before embarking on an afternoon game drive with your knowledgeable guide, who will drive you to unique photographic safari spots on the Reserve.
Welcomed back home to a candle lit dinner in a highly unique boma with views of the hide overlooking the waterhole. Dining under the stars in an intimate boma that caters to comraderie with fellow travelers, whilst enjoying the opportunity to watch and photograph wildlife that comes and goes at the waterhole.

Mashatu Connect is the air and road transport entity, established to coordinate the needs of guests visiting Mashatu Game Reserve, with flights travelling from Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa and Limpopo Valley Airfield (LVA), private airport situated within Mashatu Game Reserve.
All flights operate with fully licensed aircrafts and pilots. A range of aircrafts are utilized, specific to the number of passengers per transfer, as well as route taken. Crew, aircraft, and charter operator details, as well as ETD’s and ETA’s will be provided on confirmation of your booking.
With morning departure times from Lanseria Airport and afternoon arrival times at Limpopo Valley Airport, you’ll be met by our friendly guide who will drive you through the Reserve directly to your accommodation. This is where your first game drive truly begins!
Travelling to Mashatu via road is a fun adventure, approx. 6.5 hours from Johannesburg and 2 hours from Polokwane Airport. After arriving at the Pont Drift Border Post, you will make your way over the mighty Limpopo River. If the River isn’t in flood, you will cross over via vehicle. If the River is in flood, you will make your way over the waters via the cable car.
You will be required to fill in forms at the office and hand them in with your passport to get stamped. Once your passport has been stamped, your bags may be checked by an official. If you have anything to declare, we advise you do.
You’ll be met by our friendly guide who will drive you through the Reserve directly to your accommodation. This is where your first game drive truly begins!
